Terry Pratchett's Discworld - The Colour of Magic

Hace algún tiempo, para la web "La concha de Gran A'Tuin", realicé una serie de ilustraciones basadas en las novelas del Mundodisco. Cada una de ellas serviría como diseño de portada para el libro correspondiente. En su día me pareció una buena idea... con el tiempo, me he dado cuenta de que se podía hacer muchísimo mejor.

Anteayer decidí volver a empezar desde cero, con lo que sé ahora de arte digital, principios del diseño y de la composición. Y sé, y esto es lo jodido de todo esto, que aún así se puede hacer mucho mejor (sólo que, de momento, no sé qué es lo que le falla a la imagen... así que de aquí a unos años lo descubriré, supongo ).

Esta es la primera de la saga. Para esta primera portada, he pensado en centrarme en uno de los elementos más memorables en lugar de recrear ninguna escena en concreto. No obstante, he optado por insinuar ese elemento y no enseñarlo del todo. Los que ya lo hayan leído lo reconocerán, y los que no... con un poco de suerte se sentirán intrigados, sin sentir que les estoy destripando nada del argumento.

A nivel técnico, he usado algunas fotos como referencia, pero todos los elementos (salvo el texto, que para eso he utilizado el 3D de Photoshop) han sido pintados digitalmente.

¿Qué decís? Si veo que esto gusta, ataco con "La Luz Fantástica", y a partir de ahí a ver cuántas soy capaz de sacar

Some time ago, I made a series of illustrations based on the Discworld novels. Each one of them would act as a cover design for each book. At that time I thought it to be a good idea... now I see it could have been done much better.

Two days ago I decided to start again from scrap, knowing what I now know of digital art, design and composition bases. And I know, and this is the hard part, that it could still be better -but, from now, I don't know what's wrong with this picture... so I guess I'll find it out in a few years .

This is the first of the saga. For this first cover, I thought of focusing on one of its most memorable elements instead of interpreting any specific scene. Anyway, I decided to hint at that element and not showing all of it. Those who have read it already will recognize it, and those who didn't... if we're lucky they might feel intrigued, but without spoilers of the story.

Technically speaking, I used some reference photos, but every single element -except for the text, for which I used Photoshop's 3D- have been digitally painted.
